What is a Jeep Safari in Jim Corbett?

A jeep safari in Jim Corbett National Park is a guided wildlife experience conducted in open-sided 4x4 Gypsy vehicles that are officially registered with the Corbett Tiger Reserve. These rugged vehicles are built to navigate the park's uneven forest tracks while offering passengers an unobstructed 360-degree view of the jungle.

Unlike the Dhikala Canter Safari, a private jeep accommodates only your own group — a maximum of 6 adults and 2 children under 12 years. This makes it the preferred choice for families, couples, and small groups who want an intimate, unhurried wilderness experience. You are not sharing the vehicle with strangers, so your guide focuses entirely on your group's interests.

Every jeep safari is accompanied by a government-certified naturalist guide — mandatory by the Forest Department. These guides are trained wildlife trackers with deep knowledge of the park's terrain, animal behaviour, and seasonal patterns. They navigate you to the best sighting spots and ensure you get maximum value from your time inside the reserve.

Our jeep safaris cover all major safari zones including Bijrani, Jhirna, Dhela, Garjia, Phato, Durga Devi, Sitabani, and Hathidagar. For guests arriving by train, we also offer seamless taxi transfers from Ramnagar Station to your resort or safari gate.

Two Daily Slots

Morning and evening options available — pick the slot that suits your itinerary best.

Jeep Safari Timings & Duration

Jim Corbett jeep safaris operate in two daily slots. Each safari lasts approximately 3.5 to 4 hours, including time from the gate to the deepest part of the zone and back. Private vehicles are not allowed inside the reserve — only registered jeeps and canters may enter.

Morning Safari

Start: 6:00 AM – 6:30 AM
End: 9:30 AM – 10:00 AM
Best time for tiger sightings — animals are most active in the cool early hours. Ideal for photographers seeking golden-hour light.

Evening Safari

Start: 1:30 PM – 2:00 PM
End: 5:30 PM – 6:00 PM
Excellent for elephant herds and predator movement as temperatures drop. Strict return before sunset — no exceptions.

Winter (Nov – Feb)

Crisp, pleasant weather. Excellent birdwatching. Tigers visible sunning in grasslands in the morning. Dense undergrowth makes sightings more challenging but rewarding.

Summer (Mar – June)

Peak tiger season. Animals congregate at waterholes. Sparse vegetation means longer sightlines. The best months overall for wildlife encounters.

Monsoon (Jul – Oct)

Bijrani and most zones close from June 30. Only Jhirna and Dhela remain open year-round. Lush green jungle with far fewer tourists — ideal for an exclusive experience.

Seasonal Zone Closures

Bijrani: closed Jul 1 – Oct 14. Dhikala & Sonanadi: closed Jun 16 – Nov 14. All zones reopen fully from November 15 for the winter season.

* Exact start times shift by 15–30 minutes depending on the month and sunrise. Gate entry is strictly time-bound — late arrivals forfeit the slot without refund.
