Exotic Wildlife Sightings & Lush Southern Terai Landscapes.
Jhirna is a popular tourism zone located on the southern periphery of Jim Corbett National Park. It is uniquely famous for being open to tourists throughout the year, including the monsoon season (subject to weather conditions). Along with the nearby Dhela Zone, it remains the only choice for wildlife lovers during the rainy months. Formerly a farming village, it was relocated to restore the area to its natural wild state, which now attracts diverse fauna.
Jhirna is renowned as the best spot in Corbett to sight the elusive Sloth Bear. The rocky terrain and dry deciduous forests provide the perfect habitat for these unique mammals.
Vast herds of Asiatic Elephants are frequently spotted in Jhirna, especially near the Laldhang Chaur (grassland). It is a sight to behold during the early morning hours.
While other zones close during the rains, Jhirna remains a gateway for nature lovers to experience the vibrant, rain-washed jungle at its greenest.
Jhirna is famous for its diverse ecosystem that ranges from dry deciduous forests to lush riverine belts. It is the best place to spot species that are rarer in the core tiger-dense areas.

The entry to Jhirna Zone is through the Dhela Gate, which is approximately 15 km from Ramnagar. This gate is shared with the Dhela zone. Visitors must carry their valid safari permits and reach the gate 15 minutes before their shift starts. If you are coming from Ramnagar, you can easily book a cab in Corbett for this transfer. Jhirna is the only zone in the core area that remains open for most of the monsoon season.
